Getting message that I don't understand - that audit database has already been used - 10.3 bug?

asked on March 28, 2018

I am editing the audit trail repository configuration. I am either trying to change the server name, or connect with SSL. Either way I get this message:

That audit database has already been used.

Does the word "database" mean "repository". This is super confusing, since I am not making any edits to the SQL database.

By "already been used" can a repository only be "used" once? I want to continue using it, I just need to edit the configuration. This message is entirely illogical. I get the message, no matter how small of a change that I am trying to make in the repository configuration. We installed 10.3, I am wondering if this is a 10.3 bug.

It definitely means database.  What Audit Trail needs to avoid is you importing audit events from two different repositories into the same reporting database, so it will complain if you give it a database that already has the reporting schema created.

Are you trying to run through the wizard again, or do you get this error just from editing the repositories tab?  Either way, you can always edit the config.xml directly if you're just changing a property.  You should backup the file before editing and restart the service after you make your change.

I was selecting the pencil to edit the repository only. Then checking the box to use SSL or changing the server name, no other changes except for re-entering the audit user password for the repository.

I also tried re-running the wizard but it said that an audit server was already configured.

What I ended up doing was deleting the repository configuration and re-entering it. Then some really strange things happened, there was no data in the reports. I went to the database tab and found that no database was selected, so I selected the database and it did not complain.

Still no data in the reports.

I went to the date range tab and found that no date range was configured, after selecting 30 days all my reporting data is showing. I think that is what I needed to do to get everything back online, but it was a strange sequence of events.
