Question

update word doc save to repository

asked on March 19, 2018 Show version history

Hello,

I have a workflow that retrieves information from a form, updates a word document, then emails the document to specified people. Everything is working correctly, but it is generating a blank pdf in the repository instead of the updated word document. Is there something I need to add to my workflow? Thanks!

Hi Tiffany,

Just to confirm, the PDF saves correctly to the repository but the issue is that people are trying to view nonexistent pages for it?

If so, unfortunately there isn't an automated way to generate pages on a document through Workflow out of the box. You could leverage tools like Quick Fields to reprocess the PDFs once it's saved into the repository, or you could look into other options that would involve making a custom script to have Workflow place the PDF you've made in a folder that Import Agent monitors so that IA can generate the pages for you. You can read a bit about that latter approach here.

Hi Tiffany,

It looks like you've got the right activities in order, but we'd need to see the properties panes for the relevant entries to be sure. Here are just a few preliminary things to check since I'm not sure how your activities are configured--are you converting your Word document to a PDF in the Update Word Activity? And when you Attach Electronic Document, are you pointing to the right source?

One other question for you--when you email the document out, are people receiving the proper document? If so, are you attaching the file that is created in the repository, or the file that's created in the Update Word Document activity?

I'm getting a little closer. I've figured out the pdf that is generated from the Word document is not generating pages. If I generate pages manually, it's working. Do you know what else I can do to not manually generate pages. The email is attaching the appropriate document in pdf format. Here are updated screenshots. Thank you!
