Anyone tried to use 'Always Encrypted' feature in SQL Server 2016 to encrypt Laserfiche field value in SQL?  Does it requires application modification to work with 'Always Encrypted' feature?

I have a Quick Field to retrieve an identity card number from a barcode and store to repository. I want to be able to encrypt the identity card fields in SQL database. Is this possible without the use of TDE in SQL Enterprise?

We use Laserfiche Rio 10.3 and MS SQL Server 2016 Standard Edition.
