Question

IIs w0rker Process -w3wp memory issue

asked on March 15, 2018

After upgrading to v 10.3, I see the IIs worker Process -w3wp is consuming memory when there is a heavy usage on the server and not dropping even if there is no instance in progress.  This slows down the performance of the forms.  If I manually end the process, then the memory is dropped.

Forms server, workflow and mobile are on the same server, Windows 2012 R2 - 64bit Virtual Machine.  16GB memory and 8-virtual processors.

Is anyone else facing the similar issue?  any tips to solve the issue?

Thanks for your help,

AJ

Can you tell which website's worker process is the one using a lot of memory?

We have the same issue. The IIS Worker Process is consuming up to 90% of memory (97% total for all processes). And Forms is on its own server with 8 Gb of RAM. Loading any form is very slow right now.

Ajanthan... we did a couple of things to help with this issue:

1) we added an extra 4 Gb of RAM to the Forms server (went from 8 to 12)

2) we changed the "Virtual Memory Limit" in the IIS Application Pool Defaults to 6000000, which is about the amount of RAM it was  reaching during heavy use

This seems to have had a positive effect. The speed is much better and much more consistent throughout the day. Both the CPU and the memory rise and fall as expected, neither staying high. We've had no user complaints about slow forms for the last couple of days, and my personal experience has been very positive with this change. Forms open much faster than before. And large forms that used to time out now load before they time out.

Thanks Sheila,

1) My memory is already at 16gb.

2) when you do this, wouldn't iis get recylced at 6gb?  Whoever using forms at that time will loose their work.

We haven't had any complaints about it yet, and our users are very vocal. I just know we had to do something because the system got so slow as the day progressed. So far, this has worked for us. It could be that we set the limit high enough for our usage. Before doing this, I watched the memory usage on the server, and it never went beyond about 6.5 gb.  Now the IIS Worker Processes don't reach anywhere near 6 gb, even during peak periods. CPU usage goes up higher, but doesn't stay high. It comes down right after processing a heavy load.

While this may not be the ultimate solution, I'll use it until Laserfiche provides a viable solution or our users tell me it's not working.

I'd love to hear what Laserfiche suggests! Performance is very important to users. If it takes too long to open and fill out forms, they get frustrated.

Sheila, could you contact your reseller and make sure there is a case open with Tech Support for this issue? I'm not seeing one.

Any feedback on this?

I am trying to load Form Instances and it just keeps saying "Loading" all the while the Memory Usage is spiking on the Server continuously.

I have had to do a IIS Reset to release the memory

William, we have the same issue.  Every morning I come in I stop the Forms App Pool in IIS and then restart the Forms Routing Service and switch it back on to reclaim the memory.

In this case my customer had created an Endless Loop Forms Workflow Service Task which continued to Retry endlessly ( Forms Instance bounced between In Progress and Suspended ) creating thousands of terminated Workflows. Cleaned up the offending Forms Process Instances and Workflow Instances and changed CF_Options to disable Workflow Retries.

I have Workflow and Forms on their own respective servers, but after upgrading to 10.3.1 our forms are all loading very, very slowly.  Even completed submissions take quite a while to load.  The Monitor screen takes forever.
