Generate Searchable Text on TIF's in Web Access

Hello,

I'm working with a client that noticed they can't generate searchable text on TIF's in Web Access, (10.2.1.362) but the text can be generated via the Desktop Client without issue for these same documents. We also noticed Web Access can generate text on PDF's.

I brought the documents locally to test on my system (10.1.2.286) as well and found the same results. Is this a limit of Web Access?

The web client doesn't currently have built-in client-side OCR. You can hook into DCC (Distributed Computing Cluster) to perform OCR operations. Other methods of generating text, such as edoc text extraction on Office documents, are fully supported.

I figured that must be the case, since I ran into the issue as well, I just wasn't finding any answers on this to clarify if that was true or not

Trying to figure out what you mean by this:

The web client doesn't currently have built-in client-side OCR.

Do we turn this on in the Web Client configuration under general services?

Has there been an update on this? I ran into a customer who has Web Access v10.1.0.215 who can't generate text on an image in PDF format. She has all the options set correctly to generate text on import, but upon inspecting the document in the desktop client no text is generated.

Can you clarify what update are you looking for?

As OCR is a very resource-intensive operation, there are no plans to add OCR capabilities to the web client application itself. OCR in the web client is available through Distributed Computing Cluster (DCC) as mentioned above.
