Question

How do I fix this message: "Not authorized to view discussions" in Discussions panel using VAR license in Web Client?

asked on March 6, 2018

Has anyone dealt with this before and, if so, how did you resolve? I've enabled Discussions on my Web Access server using our VAR kit license.  It uses the Discussions login accounts from the XML file (not LFDS).

I'm now getting this "Not authorized to view discussions" message in the discussion panel in the web client as  seen in the attached screenshot...

Thanks!

Hi Kyle,

My recollection (I'm not 100% sure) is that the XML user definition approach is no longer supported in the current version of Discussions, as the VAR kits come with an LFDS setup now.

Updated: Aha, that's what I get for posting not 100% sure. It looks like the XML user definition is still supported for accessing the Discussions site directly, but the web client integration itself relies on LFDS SSO in order to do authentication.

Hi Justin,

Was that changed in Web Access 10.2?  Note: I have it working fine on another machine with Web Access v10.0 and Discussions v10.1.

Any update on this? I'm also having the same problem with 10.2

I am having the same issue and I really need to get this working ASAP.  Can someone from Laserfiche please offer a resolution?  I noticed in the metadata pane under rights that my account did not have rights to Discussions.  I cannot find anywhere where I'd be able to set those rights.  My account has full rights to everything and I can access Discussions directly, but not through Web Access.

Hi Rob,

When you have the integration with Discussions set up, those should be present as additional rights you can set in the 'Show Security' dialog. You should be able to configure them on a per-user (per-entry) basis like any other entry access rights.

Thanks Justin.  I'm still more comfortable in the old client and just getting used to Web Access.  Your info was helpful.
