Question

Licensing to Start Workflows

asked on February 27, 2018 Show version history

I was wondering what kind of licensing is needed to remotely start workflows. Specifically through the Workflow API or through Workflow Web Services.

If it is possible, are we allowed to start them with any parameters?

That is the official position. There are no licensing restrictions.

Starting workflows through the Workflow API is documented in the Workflow SDK (which is a feature in the install. See "Getting Started with Workflow SDK" in <x86 install folder>\SDK and the sample utility Laserfiche.StartWorkflow.exe under Utilities)

The web service can be secured through IIS.

There is no additional licensing needed to trigger workflows through API and/or web services.  But you will have to build your own tool to interact with workflow this way and a lot of the documentation for this type of integration is non-existent.

I know the documentation is a bit sparse, but I really haven't been able to confirm this in any of the documentation that I looked through. Is that a Laserfiche official position and do you know where that would be documented?

To confirm, a third party application is able to start a Laserfiche Workflow without requiring a Laserfiche User License or any other licensing.  Is this correct?

Can someone please confirm that according to Laserfiche's licensing policy a third party application is able to start a Laserfiche Workflow without requiring a Laserfiche User License or other licensing?
