Question

What files types can be exported from weblink

asked on February 26, 2018

Hello,

My customer would like to make some non-tiff/PDF files available for download through WebLink. Is this possible if the user has the export right?

Thanks,

Brian

In regards to the export right, this strictly allows whether a user can export or not export. The file size does not matter. Export rights does not control how large a file can be downloaded.

I did attempt to recreate your issue. On my end, it does download, but as you mentioned it certainly takes some time. We'll look to see if we can improve the performance on this for a future release.

Keeping this in mind, may I ask for a use case as to how the customer is using weblink and sharing GBs of files over it? Is it a daily process or more like a once in a blue-moon kind of deal? This will help us map out the feature and determine the best approach to investigating this issue.

Thanks for the reply, Andrew. Ok, I guess that I just didn't wait long enough. But it sounds like the bottom line is that any file type can be exported from Weblink as long as the Export right is granted. The use case for this is from the public sector for a public information request, and I imagine this happens fairly routinely, but the method of delivery in the past has been FTP.

Hello Brian,

Yes you are correct in regards to Export Rights. And to be fair, I did wait for quite a while when downloading a 1.4 gb file. So I can understand if you felt nothing was going on.

Thank you for the feedback. I placed it in our feature backlog along with your use case. We will look to make future improvements to it, at the very least to enhance the user experience so users know that it's downloading, even though at a slow pace.

Yes, the export right on the user (or inherited from a group) and read rights on the document (or inherited from a folder) are all that's required.

Thanks, Brian. Even if this file were a GB or more? The user has a 1 GB .pst file, and if we click on it the new tab just spins and spins. We're never prompted to save. This is also a WebLink 9 environment I should mention.
