Forms DMZ - Limited Functionality

asked on February 23, 2018

Hi,

I have setup a Secondary Forms server in a DMZ to connect to a Primary Forms server using a single SQL database using following guide:

https://support.laserfiche.com/resources/3481/hosting-laserfiche-forms-10-in-a-perimeter-network-dmz-

All steps have been followed and the required ports have been opened between the two servers.

I have two questions about the setup though.

1) After making this last change on the Primary Forms server...

...I am now unable to access the FormsConfig page on the Primary Forms server and the following message is displayed:

[3004]: The requested service (IRoutingEngineService) may not be running. [LFF3004-UnableToOpenServiceProxy]

Event viewer shows the following message...

[3004]: The requested service (IRoutingEngineService) may not be running. [LFF3004-UnableToOpenServiceProxy]

Is this normal behaviour? If I change it back I can access it OK.

2) We have noticed the following so far:

  • The Secondary Forms server can view the data from the Primary Forms Server
  • Forms can be submitted but nothing happens after the Thank You message
  • User Tasks can be completed on the Secondary Forms server but they do not process. They show up in Instance Monitoring at the same step but if we try to open them (on Primary or Secondary Forms server) we are presented with the following message:

2) Are there any further configuration options we need to modify in order for submissions in the DMZ to be processed on the Primary Forms server? Perhaps someone else has been through this and can share some info! :)

Thanks,

Dom

Hi Dominic,

1. The error meant the routing engine service did not run properly or formsconfig could not connect to it. Have you restarted the routing engine service? Can you check if there is any error when you start the routing service?

2. The issue should be also related with routing engine not running properly so the submissions have not been processed. If you do the submissions on primary Forms server, could the the submissions be processed?

Hey Rui,

  1. The error is displayed with the Routing Engine Service running, so I am able to restart it without error. It only seems to display the error page when the security setting mode is set to "None" rather than the default "Transport".
  2. Yeah if I do a submission on the Primary Forms server the submissions are processed OK

1. Sorry, I just realized that the documentation was not fully updated; for internal Forms server Formsconfig site to work, you need to do the following:

  • Browse to the internal Forms Server installation folder and open the Web.config file for the Forms Configuration site. By default, the file path is: C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\Laserfiche Forms\Config\Web.config
  • Locate the configuration block. Change the security mode from Transport to None. (Same as the example you have posted, so both Formsconfig Web.config and Routing Engine config has the same setting)

2. In this case, can you double check your DMZ Forms server Web.config and see if the addresses are pointed to the internal Forms server correctly:

Also make sure the DMZ Forms server can connect to the internal Forms server.

Hey Rui,

  1. Ok great! Changing the security mode from Transport to None in the C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\Laserfiche Forms\Config\Web.config on the Primary Server has fixed this.
  2. All of the above endpoint addresses point to the Primary Forms server and I can successfully browse to the primary server from the DMZ. We've opened the necessary ports between the DMZ and primary forms server too but still no luck.

Thanks for the help!

Dom

Can you check the event viewer on the DMZ Forms server and see if there is any error related with submission failure?
