Feature request: "Remember me" option in the Windows Client

asked on February 21, 2018

We have some clients who use both the Windows Client and the Web Client. We receive a lot of complaints from the Windows Client users that they don't get a "remember me" option like with the web client. The organizations we work with tend to have complex password requirements so requiring users to type their password every time they open the Windows Client is annoying, and results in account lockouts regularly as well. Major headache for IT.

Can Laserfiche please add this option to the Windows Client? Thanks.

Out of curiosity, is there a reason they are not using Windows Authentication? This would eliminate the need for password entry in the Windows Client, and if you have LFDS and can configure Single Sign-On it would remove the need to enter passwords in the Web Client, Forms, etc. too.

We don't use Windows Authentication because most of our clients have external users, and getting Windows Authentication to work through a DMZ has been something most IT departments don't typically want to deal with. So, for standardization purposes, we make everyone use regular Laserfiche User accounts.

So are the external users using the Windows Client or the Web Client? If it's the Windows Client, are they connecting through a VPN?

External users use Web Access. Internal users use the Windows Client. But we don't want two different account types (makes user administration more difficult and internal processes more complex), so we usually end up making everyone use Laserfiche Accounts.

Just curious - if you're looking to ease administrative burden, why are the internal users using the Windows Client?

They really, really like the auto-refresh feature. Hence why I keep asking for it to be added to Web Access. wink

For my organization the biggest hurdle has been licensing. We use device licensing for about 140 workstations because users rotate in and out of document processing activities. Last time I asked, the web client does not support device licensing meaning we would need to purchase 50-100 additional named users.

Hi Ege, old thread but in case you are still around on these forums, did you ever find any workaround or solution for this in v10 or 11 windows client?
