Question

Workflow to shrink file size

asked on February 13, 2018

Hello Everyone,

Any ideas on a workflow that could take a bunch of files and either convert them to B&W or convert them to a smaller resolution? My client was unaware of the settings on a scanner and we have 10-page documents that are 100MB. Alot of them.

Thanks.

You don't need any first page identification in Quick Fields. Capture Engine has a setting to keep each entry as a separate document, which will take care cutting off the current document.

I thought a script would do it, but I want to leave the files where they are in the repo. So QF would be the next choice but the problem that I'm having is setting up First page identification so that QF does not break documents apart. I want QF to keep the pages intact and keep the files in their location. I looked for a "page" token so I could set FPI for page 1, but its not available. Anyone have ideas on how to accomplish this?

Does your client have Quick Fields?  You can run files through quick fields and place with the compression.

You could with a script get out your document and convert it to a pdf, by using the pdf export coding, you can compress the file and put it on a Windows folder where import agent can grab it and convert it back to laserfiche image

A workstation with a lot of processor and memory could do it with the Laserfiche Windows Client. You can use Photodocs to convert the documents to black and white. It's a manual process, but you can do hundreds of documents at a time if the workstation has enough power.
