Question

Drag and drop folders not routing

asked on February 6, 2018

A user is reporting that folders they are dragging and dropping from their desktop are not routing through a workflow. These are the steps they follow:

1.Drag folder from desktop to route file folder

2.Prompted to select template

3.Fill out fields in template and select "Apply these properties to all entries imported in this batch"

The folder instead of routing sits in the Route file folder. The workflow is working for documents that are scanned and dragged and dropped. What are we missing to get the routing to work for folders?

Any help would be appreciated!

Has this workflow worked as intended for folders prior to today? If not, check the starting rules on this workflow to make sure it starts for both folders and documents.

You can also check the subscriber log in the Workflow Administration Console and see if that gives you any insight into why the starting rules aren't fulfilled when the folders are being created in your route file folder.

Do we need to set two starting rules? One for document and another for folder, or can we combine them? We've added an additional starting rule with these conditions:

Entry type equals folder

Entry path equals \Route Files

Template Name equal Admin Investigation

Still doesn't seem to be working, but a document is routing fine by itself. Are we missing a condition?

Hi Shanley,

It would be best to create separate Rules I would say.

For instance, I had a Workflow that would be triggered if the file was created in the folder. But, there were times when the users either copy pasted / Moved etc..

So Making those additions to the rules functioned as it should per below screenshot:

Also, I found that by having fewer conditions, the workflow would work better. As in, instead of having:

Entry type equals folder

Entry path equals \Route Files

Template Name equal Admin Investigation

Why not try without the Template name? But, within the Workflow, pick the information from there? Find the Entry and then based on the Template route it?

Hope this helps,

Thank you

Ziad

Are you trying to route the entire folder as one entity or the documents inside it as separate documents?

Your conditions above would try to route the folder as a whole (and I would guess failing for some reason, probably because your workflow is designed to deal with documents).
