Webaccess Preview is "Soft"

asked on February 5, 2018 Show version history

I noticed that the webaccess document preview is much "softer" and blurry compared to the hard client preview. Is this expected behaviour? Any way to fix this?

For example:

Webaccess:

Hard client:

It looks like a scaling issue of some kind. What browser are you using?

Web Access will perform some operations differently than the Windows client that may result in slightly less sharpness, but I can't reproduce the sort of results you are posting.  What version of the software are you using?  Do you see this with all of your documents or just some of them?  I'm wondering if maybe the difference is more noticeable with a low scan quality or lower dpi.

but it's the same document and so would be the same dpi.

Our version is this:

Laserfiche web client: 10.2 (10.2.1.277)

Laserfiche Repository Access: 10.2.1.488

It happens to many, but I don't think all, documents.

I mean the the different operations performed by the two clients might only result in a noticeable difference with lower dpi, or based on some other property that applies to only some documents.  Do you have one of these documents that you can post in a public forum?  Otherwise, can you attach it to a support case?  We would want the original TIFF file.

Hi Brian,

I think Devin got it right what he said it was a scaling issue. We're working on testing that theory as well as playing around with Webaccess % view to zoom in (which helps a bit). Thanks for following up. I have a support case open now, who suggested the latter option.

I'm just now catching up on Answers activity, but There's a couple of things I can mention. Each browser has different rules for how they render data, and this can result in different methods for snapping image pixels to screen pixels. You might want to try it in different browsers to confirm.

Has anyone found any helpful information on this? We are noticing it as well but realized if we change the zoom from "Fit width" to 33% (any % will work), the image gets much clearer. Changing our browser does not make a difference. I have uploaded some screenshots for reference.

There isn't a solution for raster images, which those appear to be. If it were a PDF with a text layer, then it would be better, because the PDF renderer in your browser can use a variety of techniques to make the characters line up with the pixel grid at varying levels of zoom. However, you can't do the same with the pixels in an image file.
