Question

What's Going On During Importing Documents in Web Client?

asked on February 1, 2018

When importing large documents (2.99GB) into the repository using the web client, it first shows the Import Files modal window where you select the file. Once selected, it then takes a while (about 1 hour in this case) for the progress bar to move across and then show a green circle with a checkmark in it in the Files to Import list. Once you click OK the normal import modal window is displayed where you can select the metadata. Once you click Import on that window it then takes another hour for it to complete.

So my question is what is happening during the first Import Files modal window if it is not in fact importing the document?

Using Laserfiche Web Client 10.2 (10.2.1.277)

The process works like this:

  1. The document is sent from the browser to the web server
  2. The user fills out the document creation dialog
  3. The document is created in the repository
  4. The uploaded data is attached to the document, i.e. sent to LFS

3 GB is a lot of data but an hour for each transfer is much longer than I would expect.  Especially for the connection between WA and LFS, that is normally high bandwidth and I would expect that to take a few minutes at most.  What kind of a connection do you have between those servers?  Are other operations slow?

The web client they are uploading through is in a DMZ. I will have to check to see what kind of connection they have between the servers. I know that initial login to the Web Client and Forms is slow on the DMZ server.

It is a zip file with multiple files in it, including a video file.
