Introductions - roll call!

posted on January 31, 2018

Good morning,

I was happy that so many of you made it to Empower and the Education User Group!  Now that we have some more K-12 folks on here, let's do some introductionsWhat do you do and where do you work?  A fun fact would be nice also.  I'll kick it off below. smiley

Have a great rest of your week!

Looking forward to getting to know you all,

Noël

My name is Glen Murie. I assist customers with Laserfiche, and manage cloud implementations of Laserfiche for Gordon Flesch. I work with several school districts in the Midwest doing a mix of implementation work, customer education, and troubleshooting existing installations.

Gordon Flesch is headquartered in Madison, WI where I work, and has offices in Columbus, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, and the Chicago area. It's a third generation company that got its start selling office and media equipment to school districts in the 70's, and now has customers across the world.

I'm playing with the Infinite Campus API for personal reasons, and out of curiosity did some searches on Laserfiche and Infinite Campus, and found this group.

I have a pair of thirteen year old daughters that I take to games conventions and other 'nerd' activities whenever I can. I bike and exercise as much as possible, so I can do some of the things my RPG characters can do.

Hi, Glen!  We're glad you found this group!  Is Infinite Campus one of the main SIS systems you see in the Midwest?

Wow - two 13 year old girls!  Lots of exercise lovers in this group.  Love it.

I haven't seen anything but Infinite Campus in Ohio, Indianapolis, or Wisconsin. In Wisconsin every school district I've interacted with uses it.

There are some struggles getting Infinite Campus and Laserfiche playing nicely with each other, so I'm currently looking to see what can be done with the Infinite Campus APIs and the LF SDK. My programming skills are rusty, so it's slow going.

Wow, way to go Glen!  I admire your dedication.  You'll have to keep me updated on how things are progressing!  Connector in the mean time should work wonders for the school districts :)

A lot of school districts use Macbooks, so Connector won't work. Most of the time, I see Laserfiche used as little more than to digitize paper documents. Since IC is a cloud based solution, there's no way to use IC as a data source that can be queried directly. I've seen some crude hacks where some download or sync service from Infinite Campus dumps CSVs or XML and images for Laserfiche to pick up. They take hours to set up, and are 'fragile' and prone to breaking in ways that take hours to fix.

I'm going to see if there's some way to create a Workflow Activity that can log into Infinite Campus and use it as a data source.

There's a selfish reason. I want to get Google Calendar and Infinite Campus talking to each other, so I can have the assignments and due dates assigned to my daughters by their teachers show up automatically on our Google Calendars.

That's a low priority for me. My current project is to create a repository troubleshooting tool that can do things like iterate through all the entries in a repository and find explicit denies, or every entry that has 'Inherit Access Rights' unchecked. This should save me a ton of time when trying to fix hairy access rights issues.

I'm sorry to hear about Connector.  I just spoke with our Dev team.  When it comes out, RPA will help with this - as long as you have it run in the background on a separate windows computer.  They also said you can you can save a document on some network drive, have Import Agent pick it up and import it to Laserfiche.  The workflow activity should work if your other application supports it.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out.  Please let us know how it goes!

Hello all,

I am a System Support Technician for Natrona County School District #1 in Casper, Wyoming.  We have been using Laserfiche for roughly 5 years now, primarily Forms and workflow.  Fun fact, spend all my free time either camping/hiking or playing Eve Online.

Welcome Kip!  It's great to meet you.  I love hiking on the weekends!  What departments at your district use Laserfiche?

My name is Blake Smith. I have been working with Laserfiche since 2006. I worked for the Idaho Falls School District for 5 years and was fortunate enough to receive a Run Smarter Award. I now work for a VAR, but am always trying to find new ways to help school districts use Laserfiche.

Fun fact about me, I am colorblind. Very thankful there is a 'colorblind' mode in Workflow.

Hi, Blake!  Thanks for all your awesome responses to customer's Answers posts.  That's quite an interesting transition from school district to VAR.  You're the second person I know of that is colorblind and utilizes Workflow.  That's so interesting and I'm so glad we have a feature for that!

To make it more interesting for you, I actually went from VAR-> School District-> VAR.
