Question

Generating pages upon import from Forms

asked on January 30, 2018

Hi all,

Is there a setting in Laserfiche Forms where upon saving a PDF copy of the form to the repository, it generates Laserfiche pages?

Or is it now possible to generate Laserfiche pages for PDFs through workflow?

Pages are currently generated manually in Windows Client by performing a search for PDFs created by Forms admin with 0 pages.

Thank you in advance!

As of Forms 10.2.1, you can use the repository profile user options to automatically generate pages for your PDF in a save to repository task. You'll need to go into the process designer to see which user account is being used as the connection profile, log in with that account, and turn on the option to "Generate pages when importing PDFs"

This can also be done with any admin account and user attributes if the connection profile account is locked down.

Thank you so much! I changed the import settings for this profile in Windows Client and PDFs (both the form and attachments) had pages generated for them upon import.

Thank you for your help!

Excuse me for jumping in on this thread. I've done this for our repository profile user account that's used in the save to repository task, but when I import PDFs as attachments via Laserfiche Forms, it's not generating pages for the attachments. Is there some step I might be missing?

Thanks,

Michael

Hi Michael,

Did you ever find a solution for this? I'm running into the same issue where the repository profile user account is configured to generate pages on PDFs, but it doesn't happen with file uploads in forms.

Hi Jacob,

Sorry for the delay in replying. Unfortunately, I've not yet gotten this to work. I assume that I'm checking the correct box as shown in the attached image and that this should work regardless of dragging a file directly into the Laserfiche repository or via a Laserfiche Forms upload.

You also need to set the New Documents PDF settings

Thanks Bert. That change now allows the creation of pages. However, when uploading as attachments through Forms it still leaves the PDF version, even though I've unchecked Keep original PDF files. Though when dragging the file directly into Laserfiche, it does remove the original PDF and only keeps the created TIFFs.

Same thing is happening for me, Michael. We decided to manually delete the leftover PDFs from the folder that Forms sends them to until we're confident it's generating pages 100% of the time, at which point we'll have a workflow do it.

Good Day!

Kinda in a bind like most with school systems shut down and everyone working from home.  We need a way for people to upload forms in multiple formats, mainly pdf, and once delivered to repository it is .tif format.  We are Forms 10.4.1.164

I followed the instructions above and updated the WFProfile account to what you have above.

I can't get the conversion to work for pdf --> tif.

Any assistance would be great!!

Thank you,

Sue

Hello Sue!

Have you figured out how to do this? I am having the same problem.

Eric

When you configure the Forms Save to Repository task, you have to provide an account for forms to use to log into Laserfiche.  In the client, log into Laserfiche using the same account and then follow the above instructions to configure PDF conversion by setting the Generate Pages and the New Document settings.

Hey bert!

Will this also work for any uplaods that users are uploading via the form?

I am not saving a copy of the form so that is not a concern.

Thank you for your help!

For the Uploads, I believe that Forms should be using the New Document settings, so yes it should to convert them.

Both the saved form and pdf uploads following the same settings as below:

But the sub settings won't be followed:

* keep original PDF files
* preserve PDF annotation on Laserfiche pages
* import monochrome images

Hello,

Was this feature removed in 10.4? We set this for the Forms user saving to the repository, but no pages are generated on save to repository. Please let me know.

This feature is still supported in Forms 10.4, Forms is looking for the "[Settings]ImportPDFPages" attribute for the user used in the repository profile to decide whether to generate page or not, please double check the attribute value is "Yes" and also check whether you can generate pages for the pdf if you upload pdf files directly from Laserfiche client or Web client.

Thank You for the reply. To confirm, the save to repository user is able to generate pages via the attribute listed, but it can NOT remove the PDF. Please let me know if I am understanding this correctly.

Yes, Forms only support the top option of "Generate Laserfiche pages" when importing PDFs, it doesn't support the three options under it. This has been documented at https://doc.laserfiche.com/laserfiche.documentation/11/administration/en-us/Default.htm#../Subsystems/Forms/Content/Processes/Process-Modeler/Repository-Profiles.htm

For the forms we save it as a TIFF and it generates pages.

For uploaded attachments that are PDFs, we use Quick Fields to create an OCRed TIFF with generated pages and Quick Field Agent to run the session every 10 mins.

Not sure if this is exactly what you want, but you can set an option in the Forms database to default to generating TIFF pages *instead* of saving as a PDF: https://support.laserfiche.com/kb/1013457/changing-the-default-file-format-for-documents-created-by-save-to-repository-and-save-to-laserfiche-in-forms-9-1-1

If you want both the pages and the PDF saved, you can look into using the Workflow SDK. You may have already found this past thread on that.

We are currently using Laserfiche forms to upload documents into repository and all our pdf files has no pages and hence no thumbnail when we are searching via weblink.

I cannot find any option to generates pages in Save to repository service in Forms , neither can I find action in workflow to do the same.

Unfortunately we are using forms 10.2.0

Please guide on how to generate pages automatically for PDFs uploaded via forms.
