SDK Script for the Entire Workflow

asked on January 18, 2018 Show version history

Hi, I'm very new to Laserfiche and want to get an idea of how extensive SDK environment is for the Workflow Designer.  Is it possible to access all the functionalities available within Workflow Designer by coding everything through a C# environment?

I would have looked through the documentation for the SDK in most other cases, but it seems like the documentation for Laserfiche SDK is not available online and I don't currently have access to the SDK documentation.

I'm coming from a programming background; while I'm familiar with flowchart types of IDE, I find some basic operations such as loops to be quicker when hand coded.

I have found the scripting environment within Workflow to be a good way to provide functionality not otherwise available by using the existing workflow activities but I wouldn't recommend it as a replacement for existing functionality though.

The primary drawback that I have experienced is that the scripting interface does not have near the debugging support that you would be used to in a modern IDE.  In addition, unless you have access to the Laserfiche SDK itself you won't have access to any documentation (although for the most part I have found the layout of the objects to be fairly straightforward).  Finally I would suggest that a scripted solution will be more difficult to maintain over the years as the product continues to evolve.
