Question

Limit to number of docs that can be processed by QF in one go?

asked on January 16, 2018

We have about 150,000 single-page images sitting on a network drive. We want to bring these in using Quick Fields. Each invoice will have a barcode, using which we will do a database lookup and index the invoice.

What are some potential pitfalls for doing all this in one go? Should we split the files into smaller batches (e.g. 25,000 each)?

Hi Ege,

We have a daily import of 180k pages approx. using Quick Fields.

The best practice for us is 20k page per scan. It's better to close and reopen Quick Fields after each 20k scan in order to open a new session.

Some details:

  • We use 200 DPI as resolution
  • The file size per document/page is around 50kb
  • We use database lookup

Note that we launch also around 100k pages scan at night (after working hours) in one session.

Thanks,

Thank you, this is very helpful. Can you elaborate on why you ended up having 20k per scan? Have you run into some software or hardware limitation?

Hi again.

No, we split our scan just to keep a high PPM (page per minute). In average our PPM is 500 (if we import ~20K).

When the number of pages increases, the PPM decrease proportionally and can arrive at 100.

You can test the process in your environment. Start by 20K and increase it in every scan.

Good luck smiley
