Question

Read-only signature field with upload ability

asked on January 16, 2018

I am working on a form that needs to have a signature field that only the submitter fills out. The form also has two upload fields that should only be available to users that are assigned to the task after submission. If I make the form read-only for the person assigned, then I am unable to make the upload fields available to the assigned user, but if I do not make the form read-only then the signature field becomes editable to the person assigned. I am running Forms 10, but I do not have the option on signature fields for "Previous data or new lookup data will be read-only, but user-added sets will be editable" as suggested in this post: https://answers.laserfiche.com/questions/106302/Forms--Read-Only-Required-for-Signature-Fields--How-and-Where-is-it-set#124181

Thank you,

Dan

Hi Dan,

Making a copy of the form will allow you to control which fields are read only independently of one another.

To copy your form, select the copy button from the Forms Designer toolbar.

On the form associated with the submission step, you could make the upload fields read-only or delete them all together. Then, on the copy of the form associated with the approval step, you could make the signature field read-only and leave the upload fields intact.

Hi Chrissy,

This works great! My only concern is what if a change needs to be made to the form? will I have to update all copies separately?

Thank you,

Dan

Hi Dan,

Yes, this added flexibility means that you will need to update each copy of the form individually should changes be necessary. If you need to add fields to the form, I would suggest making the changes to the first copy to create the variables, then adding those variables to each copy. That way you won't have to re-configure the newly added fields each time.
