Question

Is anyone successfully using SQL Express with multiple Forms processes?

asked on January 15, 2018 Show version history

We are currently using SQL Express for our Client and Forms databases. We recently ran into an issue which is basically that our Forms db is over 10GB. Our users started getting an error when attempting to attach JPEGs to their Forms submissions. We only have about 5 processes up and running right now, with only 2 of them being high volume (monthly submissions by around 30 employees). Does everyone eventually upgrade to full SQL or is there another solution to this?

All attachments are stored in the Forms database, so it can grow fairly fast once users start attaching items. It would be wise to upgrade to a full SQL version so you do not run into the size limit as well as other restrictions that placed on SQL Express.

Is there a way to change this so they are only stored in the repository?  We are currently having the same issue. TIA

No, there is not. More than likely if another option was added to the system it would allow for setting a storage location on the Forms server itself and not a Laserfiche repository. That causes other possible complications though for systems with more than 1 Forms server that uses the same database.

I did see something about 10.4.1 having an option to 'archive' to free space, do you know of any success with this? TIA

10.4.1 added the ability to basically set an amount of time you want to keep attachments in the database for based on a number of days. It works well. Eventually with SQL Express you'll run into issues either way though as you keep adding more and more processes and receive more and more submissions.

We are also having this issue. We are on 10.4.1. Is there a recommended SQL version that we should upgrade to?

Thanks!

The latest version of SQL or as close to the latest version of SQL as possible will save you more in the long run since it will have a longer support period from Microsoft.

You should also consider upgrading your version of Forms to take advantage of the data retention features that help with database size.
