Question

limit access to folder

asked on January 11, 2018

I have a customer who created a folder - he wants to limit access to the folder to 2 people.  Currently it shows that all who have access to the repository can see the folder in access rights.  We are using version 9.1.  Would it be better to limit the access when the folder is created?

Thanks!

Hi @████████,

Honestly, I didn't understand what do you want to do. Can you please detail your problem?

Thanks.

a customer wants to limit access to a folder in Laserfiche to him & one other person.  The folder is one under the main structure of the repository.  Currently the way access is set up - any of the users for this repository can see into the folder.  He wants only 2 people to be able to see the contents of the folder.  In access rights I can see where I COULD limit access (i.e. deny) to other users, but it is grayed out - I can't change it.  And I can't find a way to modify access of any user that currently HAS access to the folder

I see, the reason for the "grayed out" is the inheritance of the access on that folder from its parent. Try to "untick" the option "show inheritance" or something like that on this folder, the users or groups will disappear.

Anyway, I suggest that you revise the access rights in your repository. You shouldn't grant everyone access on everything and then deny access on some specific folders.

First, I suggest to use groups you and not users in the access rights menu.

Second, you should grant everyone group read and browse access on the root folder (repository) using the scope : This entry only.

NB: Don't mess with admin access rights, in my case he has full access rights in all the repository.

Third, you should grant everyone group (if really everyone has access on all folders) access to all your folders (add it one by one), except the named folder.

Fourth, you should grant access to a group containing your customer username and the other person on that folder without adding any other user (or group).

I don't know if i could explain. I can help you more by an example by tomorrow.
