I am working on a project that contains fields of type date but that are in text type format ... Is there a problem in just changing the format to date type?

And if so, what will be the best way to make the format change without losing the values in laserfiche?

I suggest the following:

  1. Add the new field (type=date) to the documents' template
  2. Create a workflow to copy the old field (type=text) to the new one (type=date). You should use regular expression and Date token calculator in order to transform a string into a date.
  3. Delete the old field from the documents' template

Attached you can find a useful workflow (just change the file extension from ".txt" to ".wfx")
