Question

Is it possible to use QF to split PDF pages by footer information?

asked on January 2, 2018

Hi, I have a customer that is wanting to split pdf pages by footer information. Is this possible to do in QF?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have several 5000+ page pdfs that I'm exploring splitting apart using QFs.

There is a group number footer in the same position on the bottom of each page.

For example, the first 100 pages have the group number footer "G: Group1"

The next 200 pages have "G: Group2"

The next 400 pages have "G: Group3"

and so forth up to "G: Group99999"

I'm wanting to split the pdf into a new file each time that "G: GroupX" footer changes to a new number.

Right now I'm doing it manually in Adobe.  Is it possible to do it in QF?

We found the solution to this request. Hopefully, this will help someone in the community.

You absolutely can get the desired result in Quickfields.

You can read the OCR zone on the footer for the group number with a OCR zone (Example). You can then use the Group number to name the document with the tokens  (Example). After the PDF gets separated into separate files you can then store into Laserfiche and any document that has the same name will then get combined (Example).

Now keep in mind that the success of the quickfields session will depend on how Quickfields is receiving the document. Is it auto-generated or scanned then processed? Is the document always an electronic file?
