Question

Removing/disabling search box in windows client?

asked on December 19, 2017

Hello,

We have just upgraded to 10.2 and I am wondering if there's a way to disable or, better yet, hide, the general search box in the upper right portion of the windows client? We want to prevent users from making it easy to do such a broad search. Someone had mentioned they thought there could be a registry setting that could be tweaked for it; but I am not sure what that would be.

Thanks,

Julie

Hey Julie,

I know if you set the default option to not check the 'Navigation' box it will not show the Search box, but it also will not show the 'Location' bar either which shows the currently navigated to path on the folder or file you have highlighted.  If you want to set it manually to see what it looks like, you just right click by where it says 'Search' or on the bar there, and uncheck the 'Navigation' box.

Thanks Rick; but we would definitely want to retain the Location path.

Were you able to find a way to hide the search bar without hiding the location bar?

Nope...I'm guessing it's not possible :-0

Hi Julie and Beau,

You can't remove it entirely, but you can use Settings Lockdown to control what search types users are able to perform through it. Check out https://www.laserfiche.com/support/webhelp/Laserfiche/10/en-US/administration/#../Subsystems/LFAdmin/Content/settings-lockdown.htm for more information.

Justin,

Thanks for the info.  Hopefully in the future the QuickSearch toolbar can be split out from the Navigation toolbar allowing us to have this flexibility.  In the meantime limiting as you suggest will help resolve some of the issues.  Thanks.
