Question

How to remove a registration in DS so that I can resolve the problem opening the application?

asked on December 14, 2017 Show version history

I am running into an error when trying to open Directory Server with just one option available to resolve. "Detach Licensing Site" but when I click the button it does not respond.

I tried re-registering the site but it says that it already exists. From this menu of sites, how do I detach without a context menu?

I really only have this menu, and a red button that does nothing. I can't troubleshoot any further.

Edit: Even tried uninstalling DS, and re-installing fresh. Somehow on a fresh install it automatically found and configured the site. Now it will not let me remove it. I can't even do a FRESH install of DS and use it, how is that possible. Normally on a new install it always asks what you want to do first, create or attach a repository.

Hi Chad,

The underlying SQL database still exists after uninstalling LFDS. The encrypted connection string is stored in C:\ProgramData\Laserfiche\LFDS\connections.config.

You can create a new licensing site by clicking "+ Create Licensing Site" button in the drop down menu.

If you want to completely remove the broken site, you can delete connections.config file and  then delete the underlying SQL database.

If you want to troubleshot why the connection failed. You can find more information in Event Viewer - Applications and Services Logs - Laserfiche - Directory Service - Server - Operational trace. It could be service not started, SQL server can not be connected or SQL connection failed. etc.

You can also leave the old one there for now and troubleshoot it later. Licensing sites are independent.

Thanks,

Rufei

So check this out. I deleted the connections.config from the programdata and it changes the look of the interface, but it still shows it is configured and I can't right click and edit or delete it. I can create a new one called test, but it will not let me hook it up to the database with all their data.

Sorry, I forgot to mention you need to restart LFDS service after deleting connections.config file. The service has in-memory cache of licensing site list.

If you want to attach an existing SQL database, click "+ Create Licensing Site" button, fill all necessary information and then click the "Attach Site" button. Please note that a underlying SQL database can only be attached to one LFDS instance.
