Question

Allow a file to be downloaded without user access

asked on December 14, 2017

Hi,

Is it possible to generate a link to share with a non user to allow them to download a file without needing access to the repository?

Staying within the license agreement, you would probably need the Public Portal.  Setup the Public Portal with anonymous access and then you could use Weblink syntax as the URL that downloads the document out of Weblink.

Hi,

Thanks for that.  Would Public Portal still ensure that the document was secure and only opened by the desired person?

Not guaranteed as someone I guess could stumble across the link.  If you want to ensure only a certain person can download the file then they would need credentials hence a user in Laserfiche.

Yeah, thought so.  I was just looking at a way of delivering scanned files to people who do not have a user account in LF.  We currently use an FTP server which generates a URL (with a password if required) to send to the user to access the download.  Would like it all to remain in LF and not have to be downloaded to our FTP server to share it.

Web Access doesn't currently have any functionality like that, though it is something we've heard requests for before and we're aware of the use cases.

Thanks, Brian.  It would be great to be updated when a decision is made either way.
