Question

Text not highlighted in word or email documents

asked on December 4, 2017 Show version history

Hi all,

The text is not being highlighted in Word or email documents are not being highlighted when performing a search on WebLink. However the context hits are being shown.

Please see below screenshots whereby the word ‘test’ is being searched and the ‘test’ word is not being highlighted. Thanks to advise.

Hi Sheila,

Can you please elaborate further by showing how this feature works in the Web Client? Are you getting results in Web Client that do not match what you see in WebLink?

Regards,

Sheldon

Hello Sheldon,

In Web Client, I am getting the same context hits as the WebLink. But since, the email document is a text one and not an image pages. The words are not highlighted when I open in WebLink and in Web Client, the document cannot be previewed as it says 'This page contains no image'.

Now in LF Client, I added the extensions (msg, eml, doc, docx) in the Options screen. But, when uploading, the text characters are distorted and weird. Do you recommend using Laserfiche Snapshot?

Thanks to advise.

Hi Sheila,

I'm still not understanding your requirement. Are you saying that when you open the email document, it does not show the highlighted text? Into which application does the email open?

In summary, any electronic file with extracted text will be text searchable and in the search results for a text search, you will see the search word in bold in the context hits. When you open the electronic file, it will open in the native document viewer (i.e. Word or Outlook in your case here). You will not see any highlighted text here since these applications are outside of Laserfiche.

Go one step further and generate pages for the electronic files by righ-clicking on them in the Windows Client and select the "Generate Pages" option. This will use the Snapshot Printer driver to create images/pages for the entry. Provided you also OCR the image, you will then be able to open the Pages for the document and the highlighted text will be shown. This only works for images/pages in Laserfiche.

So yes, rather use Snapshot to get the document into Laserfiche if your goal is to have highlighted text display on the image/pages.

Sheldon

Hi Sheldon,

On WebLink, I am not opening the document but I am clicking on the thumbnail of document which is found just below the context hits.

Hi Sheila,

Thank you for the screenshot.

The text you are viewing is simply the extracted text from the electronic file. It will not highlight if you open it in either WebLink or Web Client. Only if there is a corresponding Laserfiche Page generated, will it link the text to the page and highlight it in the search results as well as on the Laserfiche Page.

My suggestion is to use Snapshot to create documents with Laserfiche Pages in order to get the desired behaviour.

Regards,

Sheldon
