We have .pdf documents saved in our Laserfiche repository and automatically create image pages for viewing in document viewer. However, if a user modifies the electronic file through Laserfiche, the original image file and thumbnails do not get updated. This can further cause problems when some users open the electronic file or simply edit the images in document viewer. In the end we get two very different documents based on trying to open what appears as one item in Laserfiche. Is there a way I can control this for my entire organization? Is there a way to make sure the image file and electronic file remain identical? I understand I won't necessarily be able to have image changes reflected in the electronic file, but the other way around would solve a big portion of my problem. How do I make it to where the image file is updated any time there is a version change? Thanks!
Question
Question
image file update when electronic file is modified
Answer
The windows client should automatically regenerate LF pages after an edoc with pages is modified. I tried this on the 10.2 client (build 10.2.1.998) and it worked. How exactly are you users updating the edoc?
Thanks for the reply, Robert. Originally I noticed this issue when a user was updated the images by dragging in new pages, and then not seeing those changes when they download the electronic file. That all makes sense, you can't have the image file modifying a native application file. So I tried to test it the other way, opened the electronic file through laserfiche with its native application, remove a page, save and close. The image file still contains the deleted page. Is it a setting you have selected to have the image file update whenever there is a modification? I am on 10.2.1.953.
There is no setting, if the document has image pages and the edoc changed, it should re-generate pages automatically. When you remove the page and close the electronic file, does the LF client ask you if you want to overwrite or save as a new version? I.e. do you see this dialog:
Thanks Robert! I think when I was closing and prompted to save, I saved to the incorrect location for the temp file. Once I simply hit save, then closed, it worked and I was properly prompted. Thank you very much for taking your time helping me out!
