Question

July 27, 2017 | KB: 1013859 for Laserfiche 10.2.1 - clarification on statement re: SQL Express

asked on November 2, 2017

See: https://support.laserfiche.com/kb/1013859/release-notes-for-laserfiche-10-2-1
Under the Minimum Server Requirements, is this statement:
"Database engine: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (Service Pack 4), Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (Service Pack 3), Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (Service Pack 2), Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (Service Pack 2), Microsoft SQL Server 2014, Microsoft SQL Server 2016, Oracle 10g (10.2.0.5+), Oracle 11g (11.1.0.7+), Oracle 11g R2 (11.2.0.1+), Oracle 12c"
In the last box under this section, it states:
"Note: Express editions of the above Microsoft SQL Server versions are supported, but are only suitable for repositories of fewer than one million pages and five or fewer simultaneously-connected users. Larger or more frequently-accessed repositories will see significant performance issues when using Microsoft SQL Server Express."
Please clarify this statement.  It would appear that the word "Express" needs to be removed from the end of the note...

I believe the wording is correct. If a large or more frequently accessed repository is using Microsoft SQL Express they are going to see performance issues.

Blake, thanks for looking at this question.  I'm understanding the verbiage now "see significant performance issues" to be a NEGATIVE result, not POSITIVE like I first understood it.  I thought it meant that it was significant improvement from using the full SQL, rather than Express mentioned previously in the paragraph.  You've helped me see things in the proper light.  Thanks!
