lookup error to Excel in quick fields

asked on October 16, 2017 Show version history

Starting Friday, I've had two clients who are experiencing an error when the Quick Fields session has a lookup to Excel.  We've rebuilt the ODBC and got the same error. The error is "An error occurred accessing Excel. Please make sure the Excel file used is closed." After doing a system restore, the session worked fine.  We have determined that this is possibly related to the Oct 10th Microsoft update.  Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

Updating the workbook to Excel 12.0 fixed the Excel error and lookups work.

I am getting the same error.  Just to clarify, you did not change anything on the QF session (other than telling it to look for an Excel 12.0 file) and saved the Excel sheet s an Excel 12.0.  Is that correct?

Hi Gail, yes that is correct. I did not change anything in Quick Fields, I only changed the driver. If the Excel 12.0 driver is installed, then when doing the lookup, you can point to that driver or you can create a new ODBC connection with the Excel 12.0.  If the Excel spreadsheet is not saved as an .xlsx then do a save as and pick the Excel workbook.

Thank you for reporting it. It seems to be an issue with Microsoft updates KB4041676 and/or KB4041681. I don't think there's something we can do to fix it, but we'll document it.

The solution I see in a couple of threads in Microsoft's forums is to switch your driver from Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 to a Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0. We haven't tested that yet, but we'll update this thread (or publish a KB article) when we do.
