Question

Embedding WebLink in a website

asked on October 11 Show version history

Hi,

One of our client has a requirement to embed the WebLink component as an integral part of their website.

They want users to search the site and display results from repository, use the indexing from Laserfiche etc to help searching build filter for criteria etc. This must look like it comes from the site and honour look and feel etc.

Are there out-of-box features or SDKs available for enabling this?

All of the functionality of the Laserfiche server is exposed via our .Net SDK.  We don't have a web service API, but they can write their own web services using the SDK.

As a webforms application, the current version of WebLink doesn't have a separate presentation layer and API.

Are you familiar with the sorts of customizations WebLink supports with its Designer application?  You can easily modify the colors and background images.  You can see what some customers have done with this search.

Hi Brian,

Apologies for the delay in responding.

Thanks for the search, it looks like most users use just the out-of-box features. Our customer wants to embed  in their website a bit similar to this link: https://paristexas.gov/index.aspx?NID=285

But instead of using Iframe and hyper-links, they want to weave it into their website. I just wanted to find out whether there are any SDKs available that I can explore.

If not, I will suggest iframe with customised stylesheets.

WebLink is built from ASP.Net controls that you can embed in your page, so this is possible as long as the host page is an ASP.Net winform.  The WebLink documentation covers the properties of the controls, and the source code of the existing pages is readable.

Thanks for that Brian. Apologies in advance for coming to you in installments. Just yesterday I received some more details on the level of integration they are looking for, it’s as below.

“I would like to leverage the search function but display results  (data returned) outside weblink framework.

I would guess an API or web service describes my thoughts.

Our Website is written in .Net.

When user selects search the search input box is  rendered on the website.

Metadata or other filtering criteria are pulled via web services or API to Website.

User types keyword or selects filtering criteria,  presses submit.

Request sent to Laserfiche, results returned and rendered on website.

Results displayed with relevant style sheets etc for website.

Weblink presentation layer not used as such, just functions.”

Any ideas Brian?
