Feature Request : Import attachment into Forms

asked on October 9, 2017 Show version history

Currently it is not possible to either import files into attachment fields via workflow, or to transfer attachments between processes when invoking a new process via workflow.

There are workarounds on this side, but this involves inserting data directly into the Laserfiche  forms tables.

Surely the vendor can come up with a more elegant way to do this?

Would the following work for you?

  1. Save original attachment to the repository from Forms
  2. Use Workflow to find the entry in the repository, generate a WebLink/Web Client URL, and update a Forms variable with the URL
  3. Since the URL is in a text variable, pass it between processes as normal

Taking this approach also avoids creating duplicate copies of the attachments.
Step 2 would follow a similar flow to the Workflow below:

That seems like a good workaround.

Would people need access to the repository to view the files though?

Assume all of my users are participants?

They would need at least read-only repository access.

So they would have to be users, correct?

That does not really solve our problem.

If you have the public portal license for weblink you could allow anonymous access via weblink.

Hi Arend,

What's your use case behind injecting files into attachment fields in Forms? We usually use Workflow-generated WebLink/Web Client links to provide access to files.

We kick of one workflow, from another using the invoke process task.

We are able to transfer variable values between the two processes, but not carry over attachments?
