Ability to save as a version is grayed out

asked on September 28, 2017 Show version history

Hey all,

Running into an issue with some users running LF 10.2. The scenario I've observed:

  • User opens a Word doc from Laserfiche
  • User makes changes to that doc (in this case, copying/pasting the contents from one, local Word doc into the one open from LF, overwriting the contents).
  • User then tries to save the LF doc: The Save to Laserfiche option in the Ribbon has the save as version option grayed out. When just closing the doc, the window only gives the open to overwrite, save as a new doc, or discard.

This is one example, others have noticed their inability to save as a version in general (only having new or overwrite).

We recently disabled the ability to turn on version tracking for them, as we ran into a problem where they still want the ability to overwrite and that option was accidently turned on for a doc, making that not a possibility. That didn't seem to impact the 'save as version' option at the moment (they were able to continue doing so for a day and the version tracking changes appeared to take hold).

Any thoughts?

Please let me know if any other info is need, thanks!

I believe that this is related to your removal of version tracking permissions.  It is likely that the change simply didn't apply to the users until they restarted their Laserfiche client (closed/reopened).

This behavior sounds like the expected behavior when version tracking is disabled. What should have happened is that any documents or folders that already had version control enabled will continue to have version control, but new documents will no longer be tracked. This is documented in the Laserfiche Administration Guide.

Enabling/disabling version control tracking should have applied to users immediately without requiring a restart.

Please let me know if you have additional questions on this.
