Question

View full Version History in Web Client

asked on September 5, 2017 Show version history

In referencing the Help files for the Web Client, it mentions that a full Version History dialog box can be opened by right clicking on the document and selecting Version History, using the Tasks menu, or Clicking the toolbar button. I've tried right clicking the document and no option to open Version History is present.  I also don't have option for Tasks menu or toolbar button in the Web Client. (Attached is image of help file and content available from right clicking document.)

Use Case:

Be able to see the changes to the template of a version of the electronic document (Word document) saved in Laserfiche.

Currently I can only see basic information when I click on the Versions link in the Metadata tab in the Details pane.

I can access the prior version's history if I use the desktop client, but I don't have that deployed for most users and would like to be able to educate them on how to see these changes in the Web Client.  Looking for some assistance, thanks!

Hi Michelle,

Those are the ways you access the version history from the Windows Client. To view it from the web Client, you simply click the line that says '2 versions' in the right-pane metadata tab.

To see more details about the versions, such as what changed, you can then select the versions you want to compare and select 'compare versions' as shown here:

I've clicked on the '2 Versions' in the metadata tab which gives me: the version number, date, created by, comments, and changes.

When I select a version, specifically for a versioned Word document, it opens the document in Word.  When I go to the Laserfiche tab in the Word document and choose Metadata, it is grayed out and I cannot see the template for that version of the document.

I'm trying to be able to access the template specific to a prior version of the Word document.

The behavior for a TIF is different:  When I select a version of a TIF, it opens the document in Laserfiche viewer and I can see the template associated with that version of the document.

Justin,  you have a 'More' option showing under Versions that I do not have.  (I have the upload icon.) What option am I missing under my Options settings that will show that 'More' button?

Hi Michelle, you need to check one or more versions for the 'More' option to display.

Many thanks Justin.  Being so entrenched in the Windows client, I am still figuring out all the nuances of the Web Client. Appreciate your assistance and patience!
