Forms Configuration Failed to Load

asked on August 24, 2017 Show version history

I have installed Laserfiche Forms 10.2.1 on a server in a DMZ. I created the license file from LFDS and used it when installing. When I try to load the Forms Config page, I receive the following message:

Forms Configuration failed to load

The forms license is invalid due to: Timeout [LFF5017-LicenseValidationNoSuccess]

What steps do I need to take to get this working?

FYI -I am able to browse to the main LF Forms page, but since I can't run the configuration it gives the error message saying configuration needs to be run first.

In Forms 10.3 the port 8738 for lflicensing as added to the Default Ports white paper. Does this port only communicate with the internal Forms server or does it need to be able to communicate with LFDS?

Can someone from Laserfiche chime in please? We upgraded a Forms server from 9.2 to 10.3 and now it can't validate the license (it's on the DMZ).

Since it used to work back in 9.2, I can only conclude that there must be additional port requirements, but I need confirmation.

The DMZ Forms server needs to be able to communicate with LFDS.

Well, it can. Like I said, it worked when we were on 9.2, immediately broke after upgrading to 10.3. So there has to be something different in 10.3 with regards to communication requirements.

Chris,

Were you able to get this resolved?

I have the same error with a customer post install of Form 10.3 install on their DMZ Server.

Port 8738 needs to be open.

Hi Blake,

It seems the Forms server was not able to communicate with LFDS server for validating license. Since Forms is in DMZ, is LFDS server in DMZ as well or in internal network?

Can you check your firewall settings on LFDS server and see if port 5048 and 5049 are open for Forms server to connect? And maybe telnet with these ports and test if it works.

LFDS is on the internal network. I'm curious why it is necessary for Forms to communicate with LFDS when Web Access and Mobile do not?

The license checking should be the same on all products. Maybe it's because you haven't got to the point for checking license? Sorry I'm not familiar with those products so can't help you on that.

@████████, according to LF Support (we ended up opening a support case) Web Access and Mobile do not need to "phone home" to LFDS, but for some reason Forms does. When installing Forms in a DMZ it makes sense that you may not want Forms to be able to communicate with the LFDS server so you would export the license for Forms from LFDS to perform the install. Since we can export the license file, can you explain why it needs to communicate with the LFDS server?

I think it's because Forms get available participant count/forms portal from license, while the total participant count/forms portal count is defined on LFDS.

If license is deleted after you export it, the occupied participant/forms portal license would be released on LFDS, and you could assign the license to other servers. If Forms does not validate license with LFDS server and uses the deleted license, then the total participant/forms portal count might exceed the actual limit.

Blake,

Were you able to resolve this issue? I am currently trying to do the same thing (Forms in DMZ and LFDS internal), but I am running into the same issue.

Thank you,

Dan

The ports must be open so Forms can communicate with the LFDS server.

I have all ports open from the Forms server to the LFDS server, do I need to open ports going the other way as well?

The Forms server needs to be able to get a reply back from the LFDS server.

Which ports need to be open other than 5048 and 5049?

Does port 8738 need to be open? I see that it is listed as "lflicensing" in the Port whitepaper.
