Question

How can I get a SSL certificate for Quick Fields Server?

asked on August 24, 2017

Hi all,

I'm trying to configure the Quick Fields Server to use SSL.

In the first step, the notice ask if the Quick Fields Server computer has a valid trusted root authority certificate and a valide server certificate signed by the trusted root authority.

I really don't know anything about that.

How can I get a SSL certificate?

Thank you in advance.

Hello Olivier,

For a production environment for public use, typically SSL certificates are purchased from a certificate authority such as DigiCert or GoDaddy. This site compiles reviews of various such authorities. For an internal network, you can install a root certification authority on a Windows machine to issue certificates for use.

For testing or development activities, you can probably get away with creating a "self-signed" certificate using makecert, PowerShell, or OpenSSL.

Hope this helps!

You can also use Let's Encrypt for free SSL certificates: https://letsencrypt.org/
