Feature Request - Copy business process histories between Laserfiche documents

posted on August 23, 2017

Hello,

I would like to request the ability to copy business process details from one entry to another in Workflow. The use case for when a page of a document is moved to another entry, but we still want the business process history from the initial entry added to the history of the entry the page was moved to.

Thanks,

Hi Drew,

Would the "Associate Entries" activity in Workflow meet your needs? This would allow you to display your business process details on the specified entry with the moved pages.

Thank You for the response. I am going to test this and will update this thread.

Anita,

I tested with this activity and I could not get the 'history' business process details to transfer over to another entry. After reading the help files, it appears that this activity can only be used for a current business process/ workflow.

Here are a few clips from the help file that lead me to believe that:

"Note: The Business Process Details for associated entries contains details for the entire business process instance, not just from the point at which the entry was associated."

and also:

"This property box, in the Associated Entries activity, lets you associate, remove, or replace an entry or entries from the current business process. All entries associated with a business process display the same Business Process Details....."

Is this accurate or am I missing something? Hopefully the later J

Thanks!!

Hey Anita,

Chris has brought up a valid point. I met with him today and we went over this process. Would you confirm that the associate entries task will carry over business process details of future tasks in the business process but not previous tasks int he business process?  If that is the case. do you have any suggestions on how to accomplish combining past business process details?

Thank you

I guess this entry is for anyone else who is curious about this subject. I posted a separate answers question and have also not received any feedback from there either.

I found the business process details data in a view that lies in the Workflow database. In our case this will be fine to use since we need to modify a collection of existing documents. Going day forward, we will use the Associate Entries workflow activity to tie all future records together. Once completed, we will combine the pages therefore having all the business details for each entry as well as all the pages.

A word on using views: they could potentially change for upcoming Laserfiche versions, so using them for long term stable projects isn't best practice (in my opinion). The good news is that the data is there.  Even though the data appears in the client, it is actually housed in the Workflow database.

Hope this helps someone years from now :)
