Question

How can to create 23 Quick Fields sessions even though only 4 sessions will run in parallel in QF Agent?

asked on August 15, 2017 Show version history

Hi all,

I have to create around 23 sessions in Laserfiche QuickFields due to several locations. One session will be for one particular location.

I can have only 4 simultaneous sessions that can run for the QuickFields Agent.

Does this mean if I create 23 sessions through Session Files, only 4 will run in parallel and the remaining 19 sessions will not be run at all? How can I have all 23 sessions running on a schedule of every 5 mins for 8 hours?

Please advise.

Thanks

Kind Regards,

Sheila

Sheila,

You can schedule all 23 to run. What will happen is that the QF will queue up the tasks and just run 4 at a time. As it completes a session, it will automatically call up the next one in the queue.

If you run into backlog issues where it is not running fast enough to get through all  23 sessions in 5 minutes, you might need to add more resources to the server and increase the parallel task limit.

Hi Jason,

Can you please tell me how to increase the parallel task limit? Is it done on Laserfiche?

Thanks

That would be done through the QF Agent Administration Console, typically on the server where the QF agent is configured.

However, be very careful how high you set this because the limit is in place to control resource consumption and setting it too high can overwhelm the server.

I believe the maximum would be 2 sessions per CPU. For example, if the server has 2 CPUs, don't push it past 4 sessions, if you have 4 CPUs, don't go past 8, etc.

Hi,

Infact, the CPU is 2 processors then this means that only 4 QF sessions can run simultaneously. I have my 4 different sessions, I want to know what will be the next sessions that QF Agent will pick up? There is a column field named as Queue Position and it does not show anything.

Thanks to advise.

Kind Regards,

Sheila

The Queue Position would only be populated when everything is running and pending sessions are sitting in the queue. Was it still empty when they were all set to run? If so, did you refresh the view after they were started?
