Question

SQL backup restore older than Volume files - What happens to the files moving forward?

asked on August 15, 2017

Client had a catastrophic System failure on their Laserfiche Server which also hosts the SQL Server machine. They were able to recover their Laserfiche Data [Volume files] uptil the failure but have no luck with SQL database so far.

The SQL backup that they had is unfortunately 12 hours older than the current LF data.

If they restore the SQL database from backup, will there be any conflict with files that exist in the volume location but not in SQL as they add new documents into the system? What would be the best way to approach this?

One thinking is using the volume consistency checking and then delete the orphan files.

Any thoughts?

If the SQL database doesn't have any info on the new files, it will try to reuse the ID for a new page and fail to create the file because it already exists. The volume consistency checker should help you identify those files and remove them from disk.
