Question

Search where Document Text does not contain a value

asked on August 8, 2017

What is the search syntax to search for documents where a value is NOT contained within the document text?

Looking for something like (DocumentText does not contain "Professional Liability Form")

We are using Web Access v10.2

The top field cannot be left blank to run the search with this syntax. I would suggest filling it with the asterisk (*) wildcard, e.g. (* - (Professional Liability Form))

Hi Gene,

Under advanced search, add the "Text" search type, and change it from "Term" to "Not".

The top field is filled with text you are searching for, and the bottom field is filled with text you explicitly don't want to have in your search results. See below:

But I don't want to search for anything contained in the document text.  Do I just leave the "accept" field blank?

Keep in mind that this is a very broad search and is likely to return a lot of results. It would be best if you could combine it with other criteria to narrow down results for better performance.
