Inconsistent results with generate Laserfiche pages?

asked on August 3, 2017

I want to generate Laserfiche pages for PDF files.  In my options, I checked the box to 'Generate Laserfiche pages' when importing PDFs.  Theoretically, this should save me a step so that all I have to do is delete the electronic file when the PDF is uploaded into Laserfiche.  However, after deleting the electronic file, the resulting text on the PDF is garbled.  See screenshot:

However, if, instead, I generate pages again (because the pages are already generated on import) by going to Tasks > Generate Pages the results are as I would expect them to be, minus the garbled text:

I took this one step further and unchecked the option to automatically generate pages on PDF import, imported the same PDF, generated pages and the results aren't garbled.

The engines for generating pages automatically on import and generating pages manually from within the client appear to be different, with the automatic process inferior to the manual process.

Am I missing something?  Thanks!

It might actually be how the PDF is being created before it is getting brought into Laserfiche.  A few months ago we encountered an issue where PDFs generated on certain Multi-Functional Devices were missing text when they were brought into Laserfiche.  There were certain formatting types like bold, underline, or bullets that were wiping out the text.

Turns out is was an issue with the software in the multi-function devices that was messing things up.

If you have the hard copy of the document see if you can scan it with a different scanner to a desktop or network drive.  Then pull that file in and see if it is still garbled.  We went through hours of testing to see if it was the file or the MFD.

  1. In the options page, check if you have it configured to use Snapshot for generating pdfs on existing documents:
  2. If you are using the 10.1 client, try updating to 10.1 Update 1 to fix the scrambled images issue.

Thank you Robert - it is configured to use Snapshot so I will try the update to see if it will fix the issue.
