Question

Offline Forms rename draft

asked on August 1, 2017

My customer saves multiple forms as drafts.  The forms are saved using the process name , which cannot be changed. So the list of forms in Offline Drafts contain all the same name. Refer to image1 where "BLS- Site Audit" is the process name.

The scenario is this.  A service controller updates mobile devices, partially completes a number of audit forms and saves them as drafts.  The mobile device is then used by a technician who services customers in remote areas without connectivity.  The technician completes the form and submits it.  It is saved in the Outbox for when there is connectivity.

The technician cannot tell from the list of Draft Offline forms, which form is for which customer, so he has to open them until he finds the correct form.

I cannot see a method for renaming the Offline Drafts (when Online a new form can be saved to My Drafts and it can be renamed. refer to image2.

Is it possible to rename Offline drafts or should this be a feature request?

It would be great to be able to rename the draft in the App, or even to be able to select a variable from the process when setting the "Allow user to save form offline..." checkbox.

This issue has been resolved.

The update of the Laserfiche Mobile App to 10.3 allows renaming of offline forms.

There was no need to upgrade Laserfiche server; it remains at 10.2.

I have a similar use case and am very interested in this.

Thank you for the requests. We are currently working to address this.

@████████ I'm wondering if you would be ok to rename each draft one by one, or you'd prefer some automatically generated tag? I can tell that the time stamp isn't that helpful tho.

@████████ Can you elaborate your use case so that we can make this feature more useful?

Hi Julia,

This issue is becoming a bit critical as our customer moves through final testing.

Some inspectors are having to load 15 offline forms at a time.  One for each inspection which are for different clients.

The inspector has no way of knowing which form to open for which client.  He has to go through each one.

Please advise how soon this can be addressed?

My use case is that we have a Flock Health Plan that is filled out by service personnel prior to going to a farm.

  1. It would be nice to fill out in office while on wifi (to do the DB lookups)
  2. save as draft offline form on mobile device
  3. complete it in the field
  4. queue it up for submission
  5. submit when connected again to wifi in office

Currently setting this up with task to assign to a technician so that they can then save as an offline form, complete, and submit when back in office.

We are actually working on this at the moment.

So a user should be able to make an "online" draft offline to continue to work on that in the field. Then user can "submit" it while offline, and it would be submitted for real once connected to the server, just as you described.

Also, a user should be able to start a draft offline and then it will be synced to online draft once connected, and the user can continue to work on that from computer to do more data input and possibly db lookup as well.

A note to your use case tho, in our app, it's possible to make db offline so that user can do offline db lookup. Hope this can be helpful for your process. @████████

Julia,  we looked at the offline DB use in mobile and the size of the DB is the issue.

Hi Julia,

Our process is exactly the same as you have described above for Michelle including the offline database lookups.  Offline forms are created for field work and then synced when the technicians find a network connection.

It would be OK to be able to rename each offline form, as you can with the online forms.

It would be even better if you could include a variable from the from itself e.g. customer name.  But that might be asking too much.
