Question

Import PDFs using Laserfiche 10 SDK?

asked on July 24, 2017

Hi

A colleague is upgrading from Laserfiche 9 and asks whether there is improved support for scanning and saving PDFs in Laserfiche 10.2.  Do they still have to be converted to TIFF or does the SDK offer a way to save them as PDF?

Thanks

They can import any type of file through the SDK in version 9.  Not sure why they would say there is no support in the SDK to handle PDF imports.  Their is not a built in conversion (PDF to TIFF) in the SDK as the DLL that the Laserfiche client uses to do the conversion is a third party DLL and they are not able to include it with the SDK.  But just to import a PFD through the SDK has been available/supported since before I became part of the Laserfiche community over 12 years ago.

If they cannot import PDF through the SDK, they should post their Question here on Answers giving specifics of what they want to do and how they are trying to do it.  Then others in the community can assist them to find a solution that will work for them.

What do you do with the records once they're in the system? They can generally be left as PDFs unless you want to use the LF toolset (e.g., redaction, highlighting) on it or see it in the viewer pane (although in the hard client there is a pdf viewer).

Hi Robyn,

Just wanted to note there's a PDF viewer in the web client as well, version 10.1 and later.

Hi Robyn,

My understanding is they just want to get and retrieve PDF files, without TIFF conversion.  The developer said the older version of the SDK (the Toolkit) only supported TIFF import, so they are considering this upgrade that would enable them to streamline their code.

Thanks
