Question

If Office application (Excel / Word) crashes, does that get registered in Audit Trail?

asked on July 23, 2017

Hi All,

We have a scenario where an Office application (Excel / Word) crashed when there were a few files opened from Laserfiche. Luckily they were in the user's TEMP folder so we were able to retrieve the document changes and save it back into Laserfiche.

Apart from the office crashes, my question is though, if there is an app crash like this, does Audit Trail not register any user interaction with the file? the reason I ask, when I did an audit on the ENTRY it self, the user who had the file opened showed nothing? Looked like the file was never opened by the actual user himself? There were logs visible but all prior to this user opening it?

Please advise?

Thank you

The Laserfiche server records events to the audit log as they happen, so a problem with a client application (like Word crashing) would not have an impact on the auditing of anything that had already occurred.  Have you compared the logging of view events for documents where there wasn't a crash?  I ask because you may not be logging the view events at all, that's a relatively low-value event that many administrators don't record.

Hi Brian,

Looks like I had not set the View events for logging. I made the changes and will see how that goes moving forward,

Thanks
