Workflow: Update Word Doc - Font Substitution Work-around?

asked on July 6, 2017 Show version history

I want to use Gill Sans MT font in my word document.  The template is set up appropriately, but after my workflow executes, all text within the merged document is in Times New Roman and there is a message in the instance details stating that Gill Sans MT "has not been found...using Times New Roman font instead".

Is there a workaround?

I haven't worked with Word Documents in Workflow so this is just a guess, but have you verified that the font you want is also installed on the Workflow server?

Thank you for the suggestion!  The font was not installed on the server, but after installing it, I still get Times New Roman.

I am choosing to convert the merged document to a PDF, as available in the workflow's General Properties settings.

As a test, I unchecked the CONVERT TO PDF option and re-ran the workflow.  I got a document with Gill Sans MT, so I guess I've narrowed it down to an issue with the PDF conversion.

Still stuck.

Interesting. I wonder where it is pulling fonts from when it does the conversion. "Font not found" seems to suggest there should be a way to make it available.

Are you testing the workflow directly on the server, or are you running Designer on a separate PC and connecting to the server?

I am running Designer on a PC.

Try running it from the server if you can to see if you get the same results. Do you have that font on the PC you are using as well? When testing workflows in designer I've found in certain cases it will use a local system resource instead of the server's.

I am experiencing the same problem. Any updates on this? Were you able to determine how to do the conversion while preserving the font?
