Question

Alter Date Field in Administration

asked on June 29, 2017

This might be a stupid question because I know this can be done in workflow/quick fields, but I thought this would be the simplest way:

The scenario is such: I want to pull a value with the %(Parent:field) token and add 42 days. In the Administration Console, is there a token that I can put in the default value that will do this?

Hi Robyn,

You can user the parents field value, but you can't do arithmetic operations in fields through the clients or as default tokens. As you note, workflow would be the way to do this. I'm interested in what you are looking for though, could you explain your use case a bit more?

Hi Justin,

There isn't much of a use case besides that I want to avoid using workflow when possible (due to lack of training/experience).

My current scenario: I'm creating a template for FOI requests that we get. I want one field to be the date we received the request and another to be the deadline that we have to respond by. The deadline is always 30 business days after receipt (or 42 days). I was hoping there was an easy way to get that value into a field, but I guess not.

When I do get some more workflow experience, it will probably make more sense to build a workflow around the deadline rather than having it as a field value; but it's what I was going with for now to better learn about the system.
