Question

Quickfields Server Client licensing

asked on June 23, 2017

I have some questions about the Server/Client version of Quickfields.

If I switch to this setup will the Quickfields scanning computers need their own licensing for barcode and OCR or does that just need to be purchased for the server license? (Doesn't make sense but that's what I am told)

Also is there a specific license for the clients "Quickfields Scanning" or do they just need a plain Quickfields license?

Can I run the agent against Quickfields sessions while switching to the Server model?  Just need to know if I am factoring downtime.

Thanks!

Hi Shawn,

Here's information on how Quick Fields is licensed. Let us know if you have any other questions.

So I read that and I have to say it's disappointing.  Please correct me if I am wrong.  The only advantage running the server client setup provides is to take away a scanning stations ability to modify Quickfields sessions because I would have to buy the licensing for each station to have barcode and ZoneOCR either way.

So if I run the agent I get the ability to run everything through my Quickfields session with ZoneOCR and Barcode from as many users as I want, but if I want those users to be able to see the documents before storing them I have to purchase tens of thousands of dollars of licensing?

Hi Shawn,

Laserfiche licenses the barcode and zone ocr functionality through a 3rd party and we need to account for the number of instances. We continue to evaluate vendors and at this time feel the current one is the best in terms of performance, accuracy and stability, despite the restrictions in licensing flexibility. If you have a custom barcode plugin that you prefer to use, the custom Quick Fields activity can process the images as part of your session.

We've asked your reseller to get in touch to discuss the licensing options in more detail.

Is this still the case? If I have built a session on a server with a QF License that has Barcode and Zone OCR for example, does the Scanning station require the Barcode and Zone OCR licenses as well?

Yes, the features need to be licensed per instance. Alternatively, you may consider Laserfiche Subscription which is all inclusive.
