Question

Restored document but contains no pages

asked on June 22, 2017

I restored a few documents for a user about 2 times now and during the second time, we were not able to see any images; only metadata.  During the first restore, the user and I did not get a chance to look at the document before someone else deleted it.

Is there a reason why the images did not restore but only the metadata?  Any suggestions on how to resolve this?

Thanks!

What exactly do you mean by "restore"?  Is this an entry that was in the Laserfiche recycle bin and was restored using a client application, or are you referring to the process of retrieving data from a SQL and volume backup to recover data that was accidentally deleted?

Restored from the recycle bin from client application.

A problem with the file server that hosts your volumes, or some error internal to Laserfiche could account for the pages not showing, but in either case I think you would have seen an error reported.  No error reported suggests that Laserfiche thinks there are no pages, which could have been moved or recycled separately from the document being recycled.  If you view properties on the document you will get detailed information about all of its pages (if any).

I did not receive an error and do not think there are issues with the volume file server as I imagine there will be other impacts.  I currently have LF v. 9.1.1.584.  Where will I see the properties option?  The documents are back in the recycle bin and all I see for options when I right click is restore or purge.

Let's say some pages were removed from the document.  If it was only a few pages of the document, could that still trigger this behavior?  Nonetheless, how do I resolve this?

If you restore the document from the recycle bin, you can right-click on it and select 'recycled items'. This will display if it has any children that have been recycled on their own. Those are not re-joined to the original document so you'd need to restore them separately if so.

Does this option appear only if you restore the document from the recycle bin?  It will not appear if the document is still in the recycle bin, correct?

Correct

I tried that I do not see a recycled items option.

I am having the same issue with an image file.  Have you been able to resolve your issue?  If so, how?  We are currently checking to see if we can restore from our server backup.

Thanks

Hello there,

I just found this thread and am experiencing the same issue. We restored some documents that were accidentally deleted, but the majority of them came back displaying as "This document contains no pages". Is there a fix for this?

Thank you,

Kendra

Hi Kendra,

This could happen if the pages were deleted on their own first, and then the document was deleted. In that case, the individual pages would still be in the recycle bin and need to be restored separately. Perhaps that's relevant?

If you see my comment above about 'recycled items', that would be a place to check.

I am experiencing the same issue, we have tested this with multiple files that are in the recycle bin and all of them come back stripped of their pages.

If you can reliably reproduce this, you should open a support case so that we can investigate further.
