Question

Prevent search from checking first search result

asked on June 19, 2017

Anytime we execute a search the first result is always checked when the search results are first displayed.  Is there a way we can change this behavior?  We are using Web client v10.2.

Hi Gene,

I don't believe there is a way to prevent that. The first item is selected so that a user could use the arrow keys directly following the search to browse through the search results. Can you elaborate on your concern with this behavior? Thanks!

Our users are doing a search, checking the box on one of the other documents in the search results and pressing the DEL key to delete the document. Not realizing the first entry is also selected they end up deleting that one as well.  Worse yet, the first entry in the search results is often times a folder and so they usually end up deleting an entire folder.

My suggestion is to provide that as an option so each user can determine whether they want the first item selected.  At our company, we have never come across a use-case where having the first document selected is beneficial.

BTW:  We LIKE that the first item is selected.  The problem is that the check box is checked as well.  That is the behavior that is causing us problems.

Hello,

We have a client who has requested this feature as well. They too click to select the result they want and have to remember to deselect the first search result so as not to act on both.
