Workflow designer attempts to resolve server name from the workstation, not the service location

asked on June 8, 2017

So this is a strange scenario. Trying to use Designer from a workstation, all the workflows will not publish because the repository connection is configured for localhost. Shouldn't the workflow repository connection be resolving from the workflow service location, not the workstation that is running the designer remotely?

What if we were running the designer from outside the network?

"Localhost" is the local machine, that's how Windows resolves it. When you're connecting to the repository while designing workflows, the Designer connects directly, not through the Workflow Server. So the Designer machine is the one resolving "localhost".

"Localhost" only makes sense to use for demo setups where everything is on the same machine. For any other scenarios, the proper machine name should be used.
